- Sania Mirza is the first female Muslim girl selected to become a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force.
- She was interested in studies and co-curricular activities like dancing and singing since her childhood.
- While growing up, she read about India’s first female fighter pilot Avani Chaturvedi, whose story inspired her to become a fighter pilot. She topped her school and district during the 12th Uttar Pradesh exams.
- After completing her 12th standard, she joined Centurion Defence Academy in Mirzapur to prepare for the National Defence Academy (NDA) Entrance exam to become a fighter pilot.
- She failed on her first attempt; however, she succeeded in qualifying on her second attempt in 2022. There were 19 seats reserved for girls out of 400 seats out of which only two seats were reserved for a fighter pilot. She secured 63rd rank overall in the exam and second for the fighter pilot. - In an interview, she said that she always thought of the English language as a medium of conversation and was confident about clearing the NDA exam despite studying in Hindi medium at her school affiliated with Uttar Pradesh Board. She also said that she wanted to break the stereotype that only boys are fit for combat, and she wanted to inspire other girls through her success.
- When asked about the reason for her success, she credited her parents and Centurion Defence Academy’s Shishir Dixit Sir for her success.
