Some Lesser Known Facts About Sarthak Sidhant
- Sarthak Sidhant was born in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
- In 2026, Sidhant sat for the CBSE Class 12 board exams and was impacted by the newly implemented OSM system.
- He made a request for a scanned copy of his answer sheet during the re-evaluation process due to concerns about the evaluation process.
- Once he read the document he started to doubt the system and started to check CBSE tender records himself.
- Sidhant studied several tender documents posted on the Central Public Procurement portal over a few days and posted up his findings at his website sarthaksidhant.com/coempt.
- In his blog, “How CBSE rewrote rules to favour Coempt EduTeck”, he claimed that the board had made amendments in eligibility and technical criteria in three successive tender rounds, which favored the eventual winning bidder, Hyderabad-based Coempt EduTeck Private Limited.
- He stated that the eligibility conditions and evaluation criteria were changed prior to the contract being awarded to Coempt EduTeck.
- Sidhant said the tendering process has been repeated thrice prior to awarding the contract. Both the first two attempts failed.
- Coempt EduTeck was awarded the contract in the 3rd round and officially handed the project on 5 December 2025.
- On 9 February 2026, CBSE announced the full implementation of the OSM system. Sidhant claimed the company used to be called Globarena Technologies prior to its association with CBSE.
- Globarena Technologies is responsible for the 2019 Telangana Intermediate exam fiasco, where the software went awry and more than 3.8 lakh students suffered due to the loss of marks and other systemic errors.
- This caused the deaths of 23 students who died by suicide. A committee set up by the Telangana government discovered that there was no formal contract signed by Globarena for the project with TSBIE.
- Later the company became known as Coempt EduTeck. The specific changes Sidhant pointed out included the elimination of a condition for poor performance.
- He said that previous versions of the tender documents permitted disqualification of the bidders with “bad track record”, whose financial status was weak, who failed to complete contracts, etc., and that this was not included in the August 2025 RFP.
- He also claimed that the previous tender had excluded the names of the companies which were blacklisted in the past while the updated tender had excluded only companies which were blacklisted at present.
- Sarthak Sidhant told ANI that he found at least 15 such discrepancies in each of the successive tender documents.
- He added that his research was done in collaboration with an ethical hacker and fellow student, Nisarg Adhikari, and the journalists he was working with on the matter.
- Congress MP Digvijaya Singh-led Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports held its meeting on Tuesday to deliberate on the use of the OSM system for conducting CBSE Class 12 board examinations.
- Sidhant presented his findings in Parliament House Annexe. During his presentation, Sidhant explained that he was not averse to the OSM system.
- He noted that the system needs to be tested more thoroughly prior to implementation and that wide rollouts and good demo pilots should be done before the full deployment.
- On 2 June 2026, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi met Sidhant. Gandhi tweeted in Hindi: “Sarthak, apne sidhanton pe adig raho,” a play on the student’s name, meaning: “Sarthak, stay true to your values.
- CBSE and Coempt EduTeck both stated that they have done nothing wrong.
