  • Shakeel Noorani hails from Mahabaleswar, District Satara of Maharashtra.
  • Noorani’s film career started in 1991, where he worked as a producer in a film Vishnu-Devaa, an action film starring Sunny Deol. He produced the film under his banner Noorani Films Corporation.
  • In 1999, Noorani made his directorial debut with the film Bade Dilwale. He was also the writer and producer of the film.
  • In 2000, he directed and produced film titled Joru Ka Gulam, starring Govinda and Twinkle Khanna. The film gained him recognition in the Hindi film industry and became one of the films for which he is best remembered.
  • In 2001, Noorani started shooting Jaan Ki Baazi, starring Sanjay Dutt. However, after about half of the film was completed, the production ran into a dispute. The film was listed among Shakeel’s unreleased film.
  • In an interview, Noorani revealed that Sanjay Dutt had received Rs 50 Lakh and attended the film’s launch and some shooting dates; however, later he did not provide further dates for several years.

  • The victim claimed that Noorani called her to his residence in the Malvani Area of Mumbai to discuss the script of an upcoming film project, where he allegedly spiked her drink and rapes her.
  • After she regained her consciousness, she alleged that Noorani showed her an intimate video that he recorded on his phone. She added that Shakeel threatened to circulate the video if she went to the police or told her family.
  • She further alleged that he used the video the threaten her and sexually assaulted her several times.
  • According to the police, she also alleged that Noorani gave her contraceptive pills after the assault and poisoned her, which she caused a miscarriage.
  • After the case was registered against Noorani, he went into hiding to avoid the police. The police also searched his son, Gibran Noorani’s house in Lokhandwala.
  • Later Noorani was arrested from his farmhouse in Mahanaleshwar with help of technical information. He was brought to Mumbai on 8 August 2026 and placed under arrest.
  • A case was registered against him under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 64(2)(m) (rape), 123 (causing hurt by means of poison), 88 (causing miscarriage) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation).
