Some Lesser Known Facts About Shamsheer Vayalil

He grew up in a noted business family in Kerala, India.

After completing his formal education in Medicine in India, he moved Boston, USA, and completed a radiology fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

In January 2007, Shamsheer Vayalil founded the Burjeel Holdings in United Arab Emirates. He then started working as its Chairman.

That same year, he opened his first hospital, LLH Hospital, in Abu Dhabi.

After 12 years of opening his hospital, VPS Healthcare, his company, started 20 hospitals across three countries.

As of 2026, his company operates more than 23 medical centres and employs more than 13,000 people in the Middle East.

In March 2018, Shamsheer Vayalil started working as a Board Member at the Abu Dhabi University in Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates. He served in the position till August 2021.

From December 2023 to February 2026, he served as a Chairman of the Amanat Holdings in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

In August 2011, he began working as a Chairman at LIFE Pharma in Dubai.

In April 2014, Shamsheer Vayalil filed a petition in the Supreme Court of India regarding voting rights for non-resident Indians (NRIs). At that time, NRIs had to travel to their home constituencies in India to cast their votes.

The Supreme Court directed the Election Commission of India to explore ways for NRIs to vote from the countries where they lived.

In October 2014, the Election Commission submitted a report to the Court. The report recommended allowing NRIs to vote through proxy voting and e-postal ballots.

In January 2016, Shamsheer Vayalil was appointed as the Director of Kannur International Airport Limited in Kannur, India.

In 2023, after the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, Vayalil donated AED 5 million to the Emirates Red Crescent to support relief efforts for the people affected by the disaster.

After that, he served as a radiologist at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi, UAE, for a year.

In 2025, he donated Rs. 26 crore to help the families of victims of the Air India crash.

In June 2026, he made headlines when he donated Dh1 million (over Rs. 2.2 crore) to help and support the families of victims, who died in a minibus crash on Dubai’s Emirates Road.

In the accident, a company transport minibus collided with a parked truck near the Dubai-Sharjah border.

Seven workers, including six Indian nationals, were died in the accident, and nine other injured in the accident.

He is a member of The Giving Pledge, a commitment made by wealthy people to donate at least half of their wealth to charitable causes.

Shamsheer Vayalil is well known for helping many in medical treatments, supporting disaster relief efforts around the world, and assisting blue-collar migrant workers.
