ShrutiPathak in a conversation with celebrity interviewer Shruti Sharma:
Shruti, you have done psychology. How did the transition from psychology to singing happen in your life?
So basically, I belong to a family of professors and teachers. Education is given great importance in our family. I mentioned to my grandfather my interest in singing as a career. He was very supportive and was open to the idea of singing. However, as a part of our tradition, I completed my graduation. I developed a keen interest in psychology as well and thus completed my master’s in the same.
It is believed that a lyricist or a singer is usually romantic in personal life; are you too?
I don’t know about romance, but I think lyrics and words are thoughts that occur before the words are penned down. It is a way of putting your emotions in words regardless of whether it is for a romantic or a motivational song. Having said that though, I will answer your question; I am a die-hard romantic!
There is a lot of difference visible between old and new Hindi songs; what are your thoughts about this transition?
I think, earlier, songs were based on a storyline. Now, it is more about what is working for the audience. I also feel the sound is very different compared to what it was before. But, I would also like to say it would not be a good comparison to make between the two; it is good to evolve with time and solve your purpose of making music to reach out to the audience. Today, more preference is given to what the audience like and so I feel there is nothing wrong in that to please the target audience.
Name any one singer who inspired you to be a singer?
Sonu Nigam is someone who truly inspires me and I have grown up looking up to him. Other than him, there have been many people and artists from whom I have learned a lot. For instance, Mehdi Hassan Sahab, Farida Khanum, and all the classical singers; the list is really long and it would be difficult to pick just one name. Everyone I have heard and everyone I have or have not worked with; there is so much music and such a long way to go even yet.
Is there any artist that you would love to work with as a singer?
There are many singers and some of them are very close friends. I wish to work a lot with many of them. Arijit Singh is someone whom I really like and adore and so he is definitely someone who I would love to work with.
