Controversy	In September 2023, the Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL), a civil group in Manipur, banned Soma Laishram for three years from acting in films soon after Soma took part in a cultural event in New Delhi as a show stopper, even though there were requests for people not to do so during the ongoing troubles in Manipur in 2023. • Soma Laishram is an Indian actress, singer, and social media influencer who predominantly appears in Manipuri films. She is known for her performances in many popular films including Nurei (2018), Chanu IPS (2018), Hoo Chaage (2014), and Loibataare Ta Raju (2011).

• According to her, she began learning Manipuri classical dancing from ‘Thounaojam (Oja) Lata of Keishampat’ when she was six years old.

• In 1999, she started working as an anchor and programme presenter in many television shows aired on Doordarshan Manipur (DDK Imphal). Soma Laishram has worked in many Manipuri teleplays, theatre shows, and dramas.

• As a teenager, she started working as a news reader on a private news channel in Manipur; however, she quit her job after her father’s death.
