• Sonu Mmishra was born and raised in a modest family in Buchawas village of Churu district in Rjasthan.

• After completing his schooling at a local Government school in his village, he pursued his master degree in Marketing from Poornima School of management, Jaipur

• Since his school and college days, Sonu is trained in martial arts, which later helped him in performing action-oriented roles on screen.

• Along with marital arts, he was also interested in performing arts, and actively participated in school and college’s cultural events.

• In 2009, Sonu joined theatre group “Sarthak Theatre,” under the guidance of senior theatre artist, Sabir Khan at Jawahar Kala Kender, Jaipur.

• Soon after joining Sarthak Theatre, he started getting regional projects and gradually built his acting experience.

• In June 2026, Sonu Mmishra came into news after distancing himself from the controversial film “Kala Hiran: The Battle for legacy,” a film allegedly inspired by Salman Khan’s 1998 blackbuck poaching case.

• In an interview, Sonu mentioned that he quit the project because the project required negative remarks about Salman Khan. He said,

I was very excited for Kala Hiran. I got the opportunity to play superstar Salman Khan. I had started shooting as well. But when a narrative starts getting built, you realize what the intent of the film is.

• He claimed that he shot for two days but left before asking to see the script and contract.

No doubt they have a perspective, but if you depict superstar Salman Khan in a negative way, then I’d rather do other projects.”

• Sonu added that,

After a lot of delay, they showed me the contract, which stated that I had to talk against Salman to the media as well. So, these things are against my ethics.

• Sonu clarified that he did not leave the film because he feared Salman but because he respected him. He added that as an actor he is willing to play any role, including negative characters, but he was not comfortable for portraying any actor negatively intentionally.

• In an interview, Sonu furthrr claimed that producer of the film, Amit Jani publicly teared up Salman Khan’s legal notice was just a publicity stunt to generate hype for the film. He said,

The legal notice they’re tearing, it hasn’t even reached them directly. It’s just to create hype. It’s just made the makers famous. There’s nothing more to it,”

• Sonu also alleged that the makers objected him posting behind-the-scenes from the shoot on social media despite there being no signed agreement.

• He further claimed that he faced legal threats form the makers after distancing himself from the project.

• His exit from the film added spark to the growing controversy around the film Kala Hiran, especially after veteran actor Govind Namdev also distanced himself from the same project.

• Mmishra is known not only as an actor but also a practitioner of Indian martial arts, yoga, and calisthenics.
