In March 2019, a MMS went viral on various social media platforms and the person in the video was claimed to be Tapir Gao; however, days after the incident, Gao refuted all the allegations against him and said that the person in the video was not him but a lookalike and also said that the incident was nothing more than a cheap way to destroy his reputation. He also claimed that he had been a victim of blackmail as days before the video surfaced online, he received the video in a pen drive and in return the blackmailer asked for a ransom of Rs 15 crore.   • While pursuing his graduation at the Rajiv Gandhi University in Arunachal Pradesh, he took part in various community development activities in his hometown which led him to join politics later.
  • In 1994, he was appointed as the President of the Youth Congress in Arunachal Pradesh and held the position until 1996.
  • In 1996, he was appointed as the President of the Arunachal Congress Youth Front (ACYF) and held the position until 1998.
