• Tokhan was first elected as a Sarpanch unopposed as the Sarpanch of Surajpura village in 1994.

• In 2012, Tokhan became a member of the district cooperative bank in Bilaspur. In the same year, he also served as the convenor of the Sahu Samaj.

• In 2013, Tokhan won the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly election from the Mungeli district by defeating Dharmjeet Singh Thakur of the Indian National Congress by 6241 votes.

• In 2024, Tokhan won the Lok Sabha Elections from the Bilaspur constituency by defeating Devendra Yadav of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 164618 votes.
