- Varinder Singh Ghuman was an Indian actor, dairy farmer, and bodybuilder. He rose to fame after winning the title of Mr. India in 2009. He was known for being the first vegetarian bodybuilder in the world.
- He grew up in Gurdaspur, Punjab.
- Varinder belonged to a family with a sports background. His father was a Kabaddi player, and his grandfather was a hockey player.
- Varinder was fond of cricket since childhood and played as a fast bowler for his school’s cricket team. However, his father advised him to pursue a career in athletics so that he could get enrolled into police later.
- Soon, his family relocated from Gurdaspur and got settled in Jalandhar.
- In Jalandhar, he once attended an event that was attended by many renowned bodybuilders of Punjab. Varinder got too impressed with them and decided to pursue bodybuilding as his career.
- He then joined a gym and started working on his body under the guidance of a good trainer. He built his body for 5 years and later participated in a district-level bodybuilding competition, where he received the title of Mr. Jalandhar.
- Later, he won the title of Mr. Punjab.
- In 2009, he participated in the Mr. India contest and emerged as the winner of the title.
