  • Yung Sammy is a Nigerian born Delhi based musician and rapper who has gradually established himself in India’s Desi Hip Hop (DHH) scene.
  • When Yung was 12 years old, his family moved to India from Nigeria.
  • In an interview sammy mentioned that after moving to India, he struggled with language barriers in school, especially Hindi. His school principal even refused his request to exempt him from studying Hindi.
  • Along with Hindi, Yung Sammy also learnt Punjabi, Haryanvi, and Gujjari by interacting with friends in Delhi-NCR. In an interview, Sammy revealed that,

Thanks to my Indian friends from varied backgrounds who taught me their respective languages, I picked up the interest and gradually started rapping in these languages.”

  • Being the son of a Christian Priest, Sammy kept his interest in music a secret from his family.

Honey Singh’s ‘Brown Rang’ inspired me, and I started uploading my own songs on YouTube. But they were taken down over rights violations as I was unaware of the nitty-gritty’s of the trade. I then rigorously worked on my writing for three to four years.”
