- Phogat is the former Amateur wrestler and senior Olympics coach of India’s national wrestling team.
- He left his job just to concentrate in training his daughters for the Commonwealth Games, and his hard work paid off when his daughter Geeta won a gold medal and Babita won a silver in the 2010 Commonwealth Games at Delhi.
- In 2012, they also won a bronze each in the World Championships. And the same year, Geeta became the 1st Indian female wrestler to participate in the Olympics.
- He was a taskmaster as if his daughters were not on the ground at 4 AM sharp, he gave them severe punishments.
