- Ritu was born to a renowned Indian wrestler and senior Olympics coach, Mahavir Singh Phogat.
- At the age of 8, she started receiving training in wrestling from her father, Mahavir Singh Phogat.
- Initially, she found the training hard, but gradually, she developed an interest in wrestling.

- Ritu made her international debut in 2014 with the FILA Junior World Championship, which was held in Zagreb, Croatia.
