Controversies | • Dispute with Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala Initially, Karan Aujla was a good friend of Sidhu Moose Wala, but, later on, a war of words began between the two when Karan leaked many songs of Sidhu before the songs were officially recorded. In 2018, Karan Aujla released the songs- 'Up & Down' (along with Deep Jandu) and 'Lafaafe' (along with Sanam Bhullar); in the songs, Aujla allegedly defamed Sidhu. Thereafter, a cold war began between both the singers and in reply to the Aujla's songs, Sidhu Moose Wala also released the song 'Warning Shots' in which he allegedly defamed Karan Aujla. Consequently, both used to reply to each other through social media platforms, songs, and live concerts. [3]The Tribune In a conversation with a media house, Elly Mangat, the then-colleague of both Sidhu and Aujla, stated that the rivalry between the two began when a video by Sidhu targeting Aujla was leaked to the management of Aujla who later threatened Sidhu. The incident provoked both to target each other. However, in an interview with a media house, Aujla praised the work of Sidhu and stated that he did not write the song ‘Lafaafe’ and said nothing about the rivalry. • Attacked by gangster Sukhpreet Singh Budda's gang On 8 June 2019, Karan made headlines when he was attacked by gunshots in Surrey, British Columbia. Reportedly, Sukhpreet Singh Budda, a native of Kussa village of Moga district and self-appointed head of the Davinder Bambiha’s gang, allegedly attacked Karan who was accompanied by singer Deep Jandu and producer Sandeep Rehan, the owner of Rehan Records. According to a few media sources, during Sandeep Rehan’s visit to Punjab, India, the alleged gangster Sukhpreet Singh Budda intimidated him to pay a ransom of Rs 20 lakhs. On the contrary, he not only refused to pay the amount but also informed the Punjab police regarding the threats he received from Sukhpreet Singh Budda. Despite seeking help from the police, Sandeep received threats from his gang that he would be attacked by them anyhow. On 9 June 2019, taking responsibility for the attack on Karan and his friends, Davinder Bambiha's gang posted on Facebook, which read, I want to tell you that as a dispute is going on between Sandeep Rehaan and Karan Aujla (Rehan Records) with our brother Sukhpreet Budda, due to that they got z+ security to put pressure. That security has not accompanied them to Canada. Our brother Sukhpreet Budda, to teach them a lesson, made two attempts to attack them in a day in Canada.” Soon after Sukhpreet's gang took the responsibility for the attack, another Facebook page operated by the gangster’s name denied the news of the attack and claimed that the attack was not carried out by Sukhpreet Budda’s gang. [4]The Times of India However, on 9 June 2019, Karan, through an Instagram story, claimed that news of the attack on him was completely baseless and it was a rumour, which was spread by the news channels. • Fined for violating traffic rules On 22 November 2019, Karan Aujla garnered controversy after a TikTok video went viral over the internet, where Karan was observed allegedly breaking the traffic rules during his visit to India. In the video, it was evident that Karan‘s vehicle was followed by his fans at the Chandigarh airport road, where he along with fans, rashly drove their cars without wearing any seat belts. Subsequently, the matter was reported to the Mohali police and they fined Karan for violating traffic rules that included not using a seat belt, playing loud music, using a pressure horn, lane jumping, and driving dangerously by hanging out of the window and sunroof of the moving vehicle to make videos. [5]Hindustan Times • Violated the security rules during his visit to the Central Jail in Ludhiana On 7 April 2021, Karan stoked up a controversy during his visit to the Central Jail in Ludhiana, where he allegedly broke the security and Covid protocols. According to some media sources, it was alleged that Karan visited the prison to meet Gurdeep Rano, a drug dealer from Khanna, Ludhiana, who was arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) after he was accused of trafficking drugs worth crores, 13 luxury cars and drug money. Karan, who was escorted by a police Gypsy, was accompanied by his friends, who entered the prison’s premises in their private cars without depositing their cell phones, without any security checks, and without wearing any masks. As per the protocol, any individual or their private vehicle is barred from entering the jail premises without any prior permission from the jail superintendent. However, talking in support of Karan, Rajiv Arora, the jail superintendent of Central Jail in Ludhiana said, Karan Aujla is my family friend. He is my son’s good friend. He just came on a personal visit with 4-5 other friends. They sat in my office for few minutes only and later we went to my official residence for lunch. He is not a criminal and the matter is being blown out of proportion.” [6]The Tribune • Summoned for making derogatory remarks about women in the song "Sharab" Karan Aujla landed into a controversy after he was accused of insulting women in general by comparing them with alcohol, guns, and drugs in his song “Sharab.” The song featuring Harjit Harman was released on 15 September 2021 on YouTube. Soon after the song was released, Panditrao Dharanvar, a social activist from Chandigarh, sent a legal notice to the police commissioner of Jalandhar against Karan Aujla, seeking appropriate action against the singer for making obscene remarks about women in his song. Consequently, Manisha Gulati, the chairperson of the Punjab State Women Commission, ordered Karan and Harman to attend a personal hearing on 22 September 2021. [7]True Scoop News • Attacked for singing notorious songs In February 2022, the gangster Harry Chatha and his gang tried to attack Karan by firing gunshots at him in Surrey, British Columbia. According to some media sources, the reason behind the attack was a feud ongoing between Karan and Harry Chatha. Before the attack, Karan also received threats from the gang through a virtual message for singing songs that promoted violence. The message read, Karan Aujla… How long will you provide damage to your friends? We know where your sister lives, and the one who stays by your side, her boutique. But we don’t want to harm them. We’ve done this to you in Canada. We are waiting for your Europe tour and in India our brother Harry Chatha is waiting for you. How much time will be left to change the address, if not today, then tomorrow will come in handy.” However, the gang fired at Karan's friend Sukhi Garcha's house, and fortunately, Karan was not there at the time of the attack.
