- Chandru was born in a lower-middle-class family in Honnasandra, Nelamangala, Bangalore Rural, Mysore.
- In college days, Chandru used to watch plays at Ravindra Kalakshetra for entertainment. It was from there that he developed an interest in theatre.
- After graduating from Bangalore’s Government Arts and Science College, Chandru joined the Bangalore University as a clerk.
