ControversyIn July 2015, an inside source informed Debashis about an oversight in NSE's trading system. Moneylife magazine carried out an investigation and speculated that NSE allowed some of its brokers to access the high-frequency trading facility, which allowed those traders a few extra seconds to access NSE's data before it's accessible to other traders and brokers. This led to NSE filing a defamation case against Moneylife magazine for Rs. 100 crores; however, in 2017, NSE withdrew the case, and the Bombay High Court ordered NSE to pay Rs. 1.5 lakh to both Debashis Basu and Sucheta Dalal and also donate Rs. 47 lakhs to their charitable trust.
