- Amanjot Kaur represents India in women’s international cricket. She represented Punjab and Chandigarh women’s cricket teams in domestic cricket. In 2023, Mumbai Indians bought her for Rs. 50 Lakh for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL).
- She was born into a Sikh family.
- Athletic since childhood, Amanjot grew up playing cricket with boys in her neighbourhood in Phase V, Mohali. She used to represent her school in various sports at the inter-school level. She recalled her sporty childhood in an interview and said,
Right from my childhood, I loved playing sports. I played cricket in my colony with the boys. We used to have inter-colony matches and since then I had that competitive spirit to do well in the sport. Apart from cricket, I played hockey, football, and handball. I represented my school, APJ Smart School, in these sports at the inter-school level.”
- In an interview, she revealed that her father had always been supportive of her cricketing career. Her carpenter father hand-crafted her first bat when one day the boys in her neighbourhood refused to let her bat. Although the boys said that she cannot bat because she didn’t have one, Amanjot interpreted that the real reason was different. Apparently, a few days before she had hit a boy for boundaries which wound up the boys. Her father, Bhupinder Singh, sensed something was wrong when he noticed Amanjot was spending the evening idle. Later, when she confessed the incident to her father, he immediately went to his workshop and returned late in the night with a wooden bat that he had carved himself. Later, when she turned 18, her father gifted her a scooty so that she could travel to the academy on her own.
- At 15, she began her formal training in cricket but soon dropped it to concentrate on her Class 10 exams. After her Class 10 exams, tried to enrol in a cricket academy in sector 26. However, the slots for girls were full in that academy. Despite that, she was given a chance to bowl in the nets. Things took a turn when Dipendar Chabbra saw her play and suggested she train under Nagesh Gupta, a BCCI level-II cricket coach, at Government Model Senior Secondary School, (GMSSS) in Sector 32.
- While pursuing Class 11 and 12, she played cricket at the inter-school level for Government Senior Secondary School.
- She started her cricketing journey representing Punjab in the under-19 and under-23 categories.
- In domestic cricket, represented Punjab women’s cricket team from 2017 to 2019.
- In 2018, she played for India Green in the Women’s U19 T20 Challenger Trophy, which was held in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
- She moved to Chandigarh to attend college after playing for Punjab for a few years. In August 2019, UTCA got affiliated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India following its merger with the Chandigarh Cricket Association. Thereafter, she started playing for Chandigarh. She became the captain of the Chandigarh women’s cricket team in 2019. She scored 370 runs for UTCA in the BCCI Senior Women’s One Day trophy 2019-20. Thereafter, she went on to score more than 450 runs in the BCCI U-23 One Day tournament.
- She became the captain of Chandigarh for the Under 23 T20 Trophy (2020). She made 184 runs and took 10 wickets in 7 matches for her team.
- She represented the India Women D team in the Senior Women’s One Day Challenger Trophy (2021). The tournament was won by India A who India D by three wickets in the final.
- She represented the North Zone team in the 2022–23 Women’s Senior Inter Zonal T20.
- She represented India A Women in the 2022–23 Women’s Senior T20 Challenger Trophy. India D won the tournament, beating India A by 7 wickets in the final.
- She switched back to play for Punjab in 2022-23.
- During her debut T20I match, Amanjot Kaur made 41 runs off 30 balls against South Africa and helped India win by 27 runs. She was awarded the title of Player of the Match. Amanjot Kaur is the third India women’s player to win a Player of the Match award on her T20I debut.
However, the T20I Tri-Series was won by South Africa. It was a preparatory series before the 2023 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
