Controversies• In 2018, the song titled 'Manikya Malaraya Poovi' from his Malayalam film 'Oru Adaar Love' received criticism and some alleged that the lyrics and the video of the song hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community; a complaint against the song was filed in Hyderabad. The director dismissed the allegations and pointed out that allegations were pointless and uncalled for. Later, in an interview, he pointed out that the song which was popular in the Malabar region of Kerala shared the message of 'love beyond borders.' [2]The Week
• Some reports suggested that the director and Priya Prakash Varrier were not on talking terms after the actress became famous. In an interview, he alleged that the actors started interfering with the script of the Malayalam film 'Oru Adaar Love' after they became famous; according to many reports the director was forced to shoot a new climax and the film ended up as a box-office flop. In 2019, he landed in trouble after he used a Shaktimaan reference in his Malayalam film Dhamaka without prior permission. Mukesh Khanna who played the role of Shaktimaan alleged that the director used the Shaktimaan reference without his permission and filed a complaint with FEFKA; he alleged Omar used his character without gaining copyright. • In 2022, he shared multiple posts on social media about the closing of hotels in Kerala during the month of Ramadan; he alleged that he was not able to eat his favourite foods and suggested that the owners should place a board in their shops which said ‘food here is aimed at Muslims only'. His comments were heavily criticised by many and they labelled him as a BJP and RSS sympathizer.
• In July 2022, derogatory posts and screenshots appeared on the director's Facebook profile which targeted the Malayalam actor and director Soubin Shahir. After a defamatory post was uploaded from his profile the director took it down immediately and clarified that he or his team were unaware of the incident and apologised to the actor and the public. • In January 2023, his film 'Nalla Samayam' was withdrawn from the theatres after three days. The Kozhikode Excise Inspector registered a case against the director and producer of the film for allegedly promoting the use of MDMA in the teaser of the film. Omar and the producer were charged under Abkari Act and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. There were allegations and heavy criticism against the teaser of the film and many complained that it promoted the use of drugs and other banned substances in the film. Angeline Mariya who was part of the film made some comments encouraging the use of MDMA after the premiere of the film.

  • Omar Lulu is an Indian filmmaker who primarily works in the Malayalam entertainment industry. In 2016, he made his directorial debut with the Malayalam film Happy Wedding. He was a contestant in the Bigg Boss Malayalam season five.
  • His father, N. P. Abdul Vahab, was an NRI. Later, Abdul Vahab started farming in Thrissur, Kerala.
  • He first met his wife, Rinshi, at the Royal College of Engineering & Technology (RCET), Chiramanangad, Thrissur, Kerala; they both were classmates. They both celebrate their birthday on the same date.

  • In an interview, he revealed that ‘Happy Wedding’ (Malayalam) was released in around 35 theatres. This was his directorial debut and the theatre owners in his hometown refused to run his film by pointing out that he had no experience; however, the film became a commercial success and completed a 100-day theatrical run in Kerala.
  • He was a member of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML); he was the leader of the IUML in Kaiparambu, Thrissur, Kerala. Later, he left the party when he joined the entertainment industry.

  • In August 2020, he produced his first musical album ‘Ole.’ It was simultaneously released in Tamil and Malayalam. It was produced under the banner of ‘An Omar Lulu Productions.’
  • In an interview, he revealed that once he cancelled a trailer launch which was supposed to take place at the HiLITE Mall in Kozhikode, Kerala. He pointed out that the mall authorities tried to cancel the program because Omar chose Shakeela as the chief guest of the function, and he alleged that the authorities informed him that he could go ahead with the function if he changed the chief guest; however, the director went on to cancel the event and apologised to the actress.
