  • During his school years, he joined the Rotaract Club and represented his school at several club events.
  • Shyam did multiple jobs during his college years to support his family financially. He also worked as a salesman at a clothing store  where he was praised by his boss for his communication skills.
  • He initially decided to pursue Chartered Accountancy to fulfil his mother’s wish but later left it to pursue a career in acting.

  • Shyam once subscribed to the National Centre for the Performing Arts’ library to study about films. He would often have lunch at a nearby stall and then watch evening plays by claiming to be a theatre student (after receiving a tip from his friend and playwright Chetan Datar).
  • He then attended a 15-day acting workshop organised by the Ekjute Theatre Group in Mumbai following which he got the opportunity to become a part of it.
  • His first performance with Ekjute Theatre Group was in the play ‘Raja ki Rasoi,’ which was performed at Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai.
  • Shyam went on to perform with the group for several years. He performed in many plays like ‘Sandhya Chayya’ and ‘Doorbean.’

  • He later got to know about theatre director and teacher Barry John‘s acting classes. Since he could not afford the fee, he wrote a letter to Barry, requesting a scholarship for enrollment.
  • Barry replied to him within 15 days. Although Shyam could not get a scholarship, he was asked to pay a minimum enrollment fee which was covered by his best friend, Manoj Janglani’s family trust.
  • After attending Barry John’s institute in New Delhi, Shyam joined the National School of Drama (NSD), where he met Rashmi whom he married in 2003.
  • Initially, his parents did not approve of their marriage, but they later accepted it.
  • Shyam Pathak has worked in television series like Sony Entertainment Television’s ‘Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin’ (2004) and ‘Sukh By Chance’ (2009-2010).
