Some Lesser Known Facts About Woorkeri Raman

• Raman’s cricketing career began as a left-arm spinner, and later, he took up batting.

• Raman scored 83 runs in the 2nd innings of his debut test match against the West Indies in 1987-88. He also took a wicket in that match.

• Raman scored only one international century in his career which came against South Africa in the 1992-93 South Africa vs India series; he scored 114 runs while chasing and led India to victory.

• In the 1988–89 season of the Ranji Trophy, Raman scored 3 triple centuries including his career-best 313 against Goa.

• In 1988-89, Raman broke the record for most runs in a single season in the Ranji Trophy when he scored 1018 runs beating the previous record of Rusi Modi in 1944-45.

• Raman took retirement from all forms of cricket in 1999.

• After retiring from cricket, Raman went to Australia and joined a cricket coaching course at the Australian Cricket Academy. He was appointed as the coach of Tamil Nadu in 2006.

• During his tenure with the Tamil Nadu cricket team, Raman helped the team to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the 2008-09 season.
