  • In 1982, he and some other youths got jobs in Uttar Pradesh. He was trained as a sub-inspector in Moradabad. The passing out parade was held in Moradabad on 31 December 1983.

  • S. P. Singh Baghel’s first posting was in Meerut on 16 January 1984. He was given the responsibility of the Civil Lines Police Station in Meerut. He was appointed to investigate the 1987 Meerut Riots.
  • He was sent from Meerut to Lucknow for a three-month special duty of Chief Minister ND Tiwari.
  • In 1988, S. P. Singh Baghel served as the personal security officer of the then Chief Minister Veer Bahadur Singh.
  • He then worked in the Local Intelligence Unit in Lucknow for some time.

  • After that, S. P. Singh Baghel was appointed to the security of Mulayam Singh Yadav after he became the Chief Minister in 1989.
  • After resigning from the police department, he joined Agra College in Uttar Pradesh as a faculty member.

  • In 1998 and 1999, he was a member of committees on subordinate legislation, human resource development, and health and family welfare.
  • In 1999 and 2000, S. P. Singh Baghel was a member of committees on food, civil supplies, and public distribution and an estimates committee.

  • From 2015 to 2016, S. P. Singh Baghel served as the National President of the All India OBC Morcha (BJP).
  • In 2017, he became a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh from Tundla constituency, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He then became a cabinet minister in the Yogi government.
  • In 2019, S. P. Singh Baghel was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Agra constituency on the ticket of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
  • In the 2022 Assembly elections, the BJP nominated him to contest against Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav for the Karhal seat. However, Baghel was defeated by Akhilesh in the election.
