Some Lesser Known Facts About Heera Rajagopal
- When she was in college, Heera was approached to model for print magazines. She took the opportunity for financial independence. She also briefly worked as an encyclopedia seller, a hotel worker, and a model coordinator.
- During the early days, Heera was not keen on a film career and turned down many film roles. She first received a film offer on a family holiday at Gulmarg in Kashmir, where a producer had approached her to play the body double for Tina Munim. She also later rejected an offer from filmmaker Subhash Ghai, who had attended one of her modelling assignments.
- Ajith Kumar and Heera Rajagopal fell in love during the filming of “Kadhal Kottai” (1996) and “Thodarum” (1997). Their relationship ended in 1998, with Ajith Kumar citing changes in Heera’s behaviour and referring to her as a ‘drug addict’ in interviews. He said,
We lived together, I really liked her, but now everything has changed; she is not the same person anymore. In fact, she is a drug addict.”
- Heera worked in many Tamil films like Nee Pathi Naan Pathi (1991), Dasarathan (1993), Thiruda Thiruda (1993), Kaathal Kottai (1996), and Avvai Shanmukhi 1996). She has also worked in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi film productions.
- In 1999, Heera quit the film industry, at the peak of her career. She described the reason behind it on her website where she said,
I made the decision to stop acting in films because of who I am as a person. It was important for me not to succumb to the inevitable pressures to play roles that did not appeal to my intellect or sensibilities and only served to reinforce the status of women as voiceless and powerless props—the antithesis of who I am as an individual.”
- After quitting the film industry, Heera pursued her passion for writing and philanthropy. She adopted the name Heera Alaya and launched her official website, where she shares her thoughts, philosophies, and photos.
