Some Lesser Known Facts About Suraj Pasi

  • Suraj Pasi was born in Bholapur village of Bakshi ka Talab area in Lucknow.
  • He comes from a financially modest family background.
  • When Pasi was 17 years old, his father died. After his father’s death, Pasi managed family responsibilities along with continuing his studies.
  • During his teenage, he started studying the history of the Pasi community and became interested in issues related to identity, dignity and social awareness among Dalit youth.
  • In an interview, Pasi revealed that he believes that the Pasi community once had a strong warrior legacy; however, it gradually lost social and economic influence over time.
  • With the time, Suraj started more actively participating in the welfare of Pasi community. He also became a social influencer in his community.
  • On 27 February 2023, Suraj Pasi started the “Lakhan Ekta Mission,” which later became popular as the Lakhan Army.

  • Under the leadership of Suraj, the Lakhan Army mainly targets Gen Z youth and focused on education, self-respect, and awareness campaigns in rural places of Uttar Pradesh.
  • In an interview, Pasi mentioned that one of the strict conditions for joining the Lakhan Army is to stay away from drugs, alcohol and criminal activities. He added that his anti-addiction campaign helped him gain popularity among unemployed and rural youth in several district of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Over the years, his Lakhan Army expanded its network to nearly 30 districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Hardoi, Gorakhpur, Shahjahanpur, Pilibhit, and Azamgarh. In an interview, Suraj revealed that the Lakhan Army is also trying to expand its presence in other states like Bihar and Uttarakhand.
  • In May 2026, during the Kasmandi Kala fort dispute in Malihabad, Lucknow, Suraj Pasi came into news, for claiming the site was linked to Maharaja Kansa Pasi and an ancient Shiva temple insisting that namaz cannot be offered there. However, the Muslim side said that the structure is a mosque.

  • On 22 May 2026, after the namaj was offered at the disputed site, Kasmandi Kala fort, Suraj Pasi led a protest and demanded permission for Hanuman Chalisa recitation there.
  • Police later registered case against 15 members of Lakhan Army members.
  • Suraj Pasi strongly condemned the police action and alleged that the police administration was favouring what he described as “foreign invaders”. He also warned the administration that if the cases against Lakhan Army members were not withdrawn, he would launch a large-scale protest across Uttar Pradesh.
