Controversies	FIR registered for extortion In 2019, Mahesh Gaikwad was accused of attacking a private contractor who was setting up cables for a telecom company, and trying to extort Rs 1 lakh from him. The Kolsewadi police in Kalyan filed a case against him. Mahesh denied the charges and said that Ganpat Gaikwad, a political figure, pressured the police to file the case. However, Ganpat Gaikwad denied these accusations. He claimed that Mahesh was actually trying to extort money from the contractor and had stopped the cable installation work. According to Mahesh Gaikwad’s supporter, Mahesh was at the police station to help resolve the conflict, but Ganpat saw him as a political opponent and shot him.

In August 2023, they clashed over a delayed development project in Kalyan (East).
