Some Lesser Known Facts About Kaziah Liz Mejo

• Kaziah Liz Mejo grew up in Abu Dhabi before moving to India.

• She started training in classical dance at about four or five years old, and trained for 12 years.

• In addition to learning to dance, she learned to sing and play the drums and violin. She also took classes in karate and public speaking.

• As a kid, she once wanted to carry the Indian flag at an event during a march where the flag was nearly twice her height.

• She tried to get herself chosen as the lead for the procession, until the organisers selected her.

• Her mother had taken part in small pageants while growing up in Kerala.

• Mejo informed her parents she wanted to pursue pageantry, and they didn’t ask her why. All they wanted to know was how to sign up for it.

• From the beginning, her parents realized that she was a different smile and lit-up eyes when she was on stage.

• Mejo’s first Miss Universe pageant was the one where Harnaaz Sandhu took the crown in 2021 after 20 years.

• At that moment, she changed her way of thinking and her vision of what she wanted to be.

• In the beginning of 2026, Mejo was crowned as Miss Universe Kerala and thus she represented the state to the national Miss Universe India pageant. This victory made her the youngest state titleholder ever.

• Miss Universe India 2026 held with the participation of 52 contestants at 23rd August 2026 in Zee Studios, Jaipur.

• India’s first Miss Universe, Sushmita Sen led the jury. Among the panel members were former title holders Urvashi Rautela, Rhea Singha, Celina Jaitly and environmentalist and film producer Pragya Kapoor.

• The previous year’s winner, Manika Vishwakarma, was back and crowned the next year’s winner.

• The last question from the judges was what the meaning of silence was to her personally for her final question. She later went on to win the crown to become the first Kerala girl to become Miss Universe India.

• When the announcement was made, Mejo shouted out loud on the stage.

• Her heart went racing in her while standing among the last two players waiting for the outcome, she said.

• She said that it took more than three years to make the win happen and that she wanted to take the crown home to Kerala by representing the country with it.

• The first food she ate on the night she won was pizza, burgers and fries, some time around 5 am.

• She ate pizzas and burgers with extra cheese and extra patty during the pageant too and she doesn’t believe in starving for a particular body shape,” she said.

• She is active using exercise, but maintains balance in food and fitness. Mejo used to sleep with her crown the first night she became a titleholder.

• When she fell asleep, she would hold the box with the crown in it and came up with bruises from the edges of the box when she woke up.

• She was away from Kerala and during the time of Onam, gave an interview to the media in a saree.

• She said that she couldn’t get her Onam sadya and her Onam saree from home and that the ada payasam is her favorite part of the Onam festival.

• She also missed the malayali food specially podichoru and moru curry with mezhukkupuratti, dishes her parents make for her whenever she return home.

• She had vowed to her friends, school and teachers in Abu Dhabi that she would come back with a crown on her head.

• Since her win, teachers from her grade 7 and grade 8 days have followed up with her.

• Mejo will represent India in the 75th Miss Universe pageant. The final will be at Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico on 24 November 2026.
