Controversy	Arrested for offensive comments On 8 November 2023, he was arrested in a case of hate speech for linking Hindu priests and Namgarhias (priests of the Vaishnavite sect) with criminal activities in Goalpara district at a public meeting on 4 November 2023. His comments came in response to All India United Democratic Front chief Badruddin Ajmal who had called Muslims as "number one in robbery, dacoity, rape." He issued an apology on 5 November for his remarks. He was granted bail on 9 November 2023.
