Some Lesser Known Facts about Akaash Singh

• Akaash studied premed from 2002 to 2006 as he wanted to become a doctor like his uncle. In high school, Akaash Singh began performing stand-up comedy. In an interview, he recalled that it was one of his friends who motivated him to start stand-up comedy. He said,
  

  My first experience of doing comedy came in high school — because a friend made me do it, it was at an open mic at a bar in Denton called the Brick House Café. I was onstage for about five minutes. I didn’t do it again for another four or five years.”

• Singh moved from Texas to Los Angeles in September 2006 to pursue stand-up full-time after graduating from college.

• He performed in several events while in Los Angeles, but they were not successful.

• By February of 2007, he had started hosting five or more open mic nights per week.

• After relocating to New York in 2008, he started making occasional comic club appearances while also working as a comedic barker at the Village Lantern.

• In 2010, Singh went on a national tour. During the tour, he performed at “The Festival of India” at The University of Texas. This got him his first media review with positive feedback. ^[3]Global Indian Times

• With the American series Good Medicine in 2014, Akaash Singh made his on-screen debut. He appeared in the show as Raj, an Indian-American wannabe player.

• In the same year, he made an appearance as a Dry Cleaner in the supernatural drama television series The Leftovers on HBO.

• His appearances in American sketch comedy and battle rap improv game TV show Wild ‘n Out’s seasons 6 and 7 helped him gain popularity.

• In 2015, Akaash Singh made an appearance on the MTV2 reality comedy series Guy Code.

• In addition to Red Oaks (2015), Guy Code vs. Girl Code (2016), and Fake News at Night (2018), Akaash Singh has made appearances in many other television series.

• In 2016, Akaash made his OTT debut with the Netflix show Brown Nation. He played the role of an IT company employee named Raj in America of Indian origin.

• In October 2020, Akaash Singh received a Silver Play Button from YouTube for crossing 100,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel. ^[4]Facebook – Akaash Singh

• A major turning point in Akaash’s career came when his comedy special “Bring Back Appu” was made available on his official YouTube channel in February 2022. White privilege jokes and Akaash’s humorous take on racism were featured in the special.

• “Bring Back Appu” focused on the debate over the removal of Appu, the character who immigrated from India, from the popular American television program “The Simpsons.”

• The character was removed from the show for supposedly having racist views; but in his video, Akaash humorously challenged this idea by presenting the character as a symbol of the American dream instead of being racist. In its first week, the video received over a million views.

• He became the comedian who created two specials in a row in March 2022 after releasing The Crowdwork Special.

• Along with American comedian Andrew Schulz, Akaash Singh hosts the podcast Flagrant. The podcast began in 2022 as a sports podcast, but it soon expanded to include pop culture and current affairs. Following the podcast’s popularity, Singh also started a Patreon page, where they regularly release new audio episodes.

• Akaash Singh owns a production company, Padma Devi Productions, which is named after his mother.

• The Joe Rogan Experience, a podcast hosted by American comedian, presenter, and UFC colour commentator Joe Rogan, featured Akaash Singh in February 2022.
