Some Lesser Known Facts About Anjali Birla

• Anjali Birla grew up in Kota, Rajasthan.

• While she was in college, she began preparing for the Union Public Service Commission’s Civil Service Examination.

• In 2019, she appeared for the UPSC CSE and cleared the exam on her first attempt. However, her name was in the Consolidated Reserve.

• On clearing the examination, Anjali credited her success to her father, Om Birla, and sister, Akanksha Birla. She said,
  

  I am very happy to get selected in the exam. I wanted to join the civil services to do something for the society as I always saw my father’s commitment towards the people of the country.”

• After the announcement of the UPSC results in August 2020, the Department of Personnel and Training released a Reserve List which included 89 candidates from different categories. Anjali was ranked 67th on the list.

• In 2021, Anjali was assigned to the Indian Railway Personnel Service and began working in the Ministry of Railways.

• After her father, Om Birla, was re-appointed as the speaker of the Lok Sabha, a rumour went viral on social media that Anjali Birla cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam without even appearing for it.

• After the rumours spread, the Department of Personnel and Training released a statement, clearing that Anjali’s name was there in the Consolidated Reserve list. The statement read,
  

  The commission , in accordance with the Rule 16 (4) and (5) of the Civil Services Examination Rules, was also maintaining a Consolidated Reserve List in order of merit below the last recommended candidate under the respective categories.”

• Many people then began saying that Anjali was included in the list by removing another candidate from the reserved quota as her father was the Lok Sabha speaker.

• Later, Anjali Birla filed a defamation suit in the Delhi High Court, seeking the removal of social media posts on various platforms that falsely claimed that she passed the UPSC exam on her first attempt because of her father’s influence. The Delhi High Court, in an interim order, directed the social media platforms to remove all such posts within 24 hours.

• On 12 November 2024, Anjali Birla got married to Anish Rajani. Their marriage was solemnised on the occasion of Dev Uthani Gyaras. The wedding was followed by an Aashrivad Ceremony on 13 November. Their wedding was attended by many prominent personalities from the political background.
