- Ashish Sakharkar (1979-2023) was a renowned Indian bodybuilder who achieved remarkable success in various bodybuilding competitions. He passed away in July 2023 after battling an illness.
- During his college days, Ashish Sakharkar developed a keen interest in bodybuilding. Despite passing the CA (Chartered Accountant) Level 1 exam, he chose to follow his passion for bodybuilding and decided not to pursue a career as a chartered accountant. [3]YouTube – Ishwar Thakare
- He was also drawn towards bodybuilding as his father was also an amateur bodybuilder who won the prestigious Mr Maharashtra Bodybuilding competition.
- In 1999, Ashish Sakharkar took his first step into the world of bodybuilding by participating in the local amateur YMCA event. He had been working out for just six months leading up to the competition; however, despite his relatively short training period, he secured the gold medal in the Men’s novice category.
- He continued to excel in bodybuilding and won the Mr India (Federation Cup) title four times, becoming one of the top bodybuilders in the country. His preferred weight category in bodybuilding competitions was the 80 kg division.
- He won many medals at various championships including a gold medal in an IFBB European Championship, a silver medal in an IFBB Mr Asia Championship, and a silver and bronze medal in an IFBB Mr Universe Championship; he also got the 7th rank at an Amateur Olympia championship.
- In 2013, he participated in the Sheru Classic Competition; however, he was unable to secure a medal.
- He used to follow a strict and disciplined diet regimen. In 2011, while preparing for a competition, he shared insights into his daily dietary intake, which included 50 eggs, 1 kg of chicken, 1 kg of fish, and half a kg of dry fruits. To ensure an optimal balance of nutrients, he divided his meals into four parts, strategically planning his intake throughout the day to meet his body’s nutritional demands.
- Ashish Sakharkar worked out twice a day, once in the morning and again in the evening, to maximize his muscle growth and overall fitness. His workouts predominantly focused on using free weights like barbells and dumbbells.
- He also shared his expertise and passion for fitness with others by working as a gym trainer. In April 2021, he took his commitment to fitness a step further by opening his own gym named ‘Midtown Fitness,’ which was located in Mumbai.
- On 19 July 2023, Ashish passed away due to an illness which he had been suffering for a week. A week before his untimely demise, he was admitted to a hospital in South Mumbai due to complaints of fever and illness.
