  • David joined Harry Shapiro’s Cricket Institute at a young age to get specialized training in cricket as his hometown lacked basic cricket facilities.
  • David wanted to become a spinner during his early days but became a pacer as his physical strength grew with time.
  • David made his debut in domestic cricket for the Easterns in the 2005–06 SAA Provincial Cup;  he scored 526 runs and took 26 wickets in nine matches.
  • David was the highest wicket-taker in the 2009 edition of the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes while playing for South Africa.
  • David came into the limelight when he scored 61 runs off just 28 balls including six sixes for the Titans against Sydney Sixers in the semifinals of the 2012 Champions League Twenty20.
