When Devajit Saikia became the joint secretary of BCCI in December 2024, Assam’s Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia wrote a letter to Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna. He complained that Devajit Saikia broke the rules as he held an 'office of profit' as the advocate general of Assam. He also challenged his appointment as a member of the Board of Directors of ICC.

  • In the decade of 2000s and 2010s, as a board member of the Gauhati Town Club (GTC), he opened several academies for chess, boxing, football, and cricket.

  • In 2014, he resigned from the Additional Advocate General of Assam after some disputes with then-Assam CM Tarun Gogoi.
  • As an ACA member, his biggest achievement was to complete the construction of the ACA Stadium in Barsapara and host the first T20 match between India and Australia on 10 October 2017.

  • He also established many women’s cricket tournaments including the Kanaklata Barua Trophy.
  • On 21 May 2021, he created history by becoming the youngest person to become the Advocate General of Assam at the age of 52 years and one month.

  • In May 2023, he helped frame a new ACA constitution in 2 months and implemented it.
  • He has also changed the age-group structure for football in Assam along with many other tournaments such as the Bordoloi Trophy.

  • He is very fond of bike riding and has driven his bike through many areas of France, Thailand, Ladakh, and Route 66 in the USA on his bike.
