| Controversy | FIR for speech against St. Francis Xavier On 18 April 2026, YouTuber, and follower of Arya Samaj, Gautam Khattar spoke at an event at Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti celebrated by Sanatan Dharma Raksha Samiti in Goa. This was held in the company of Swami Brahmeshanand, State Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho and BJP MLAs Sankulp Amonkar and Daji Salkar. Khattar claimed that 16th century Jesuit missionary Francis Xavier was a terrorist, termed him barbaric and cruel and commented about the Xavier remains, which are regarded by Christians as sacred remains that are kept at the church of Basilio Bom Jesus at Old Goa. One of the videos of the speech became viral, which provoked protests and called into question the arrest of him by a number of Christian organisations and political figures. A Congressional functionary Peter D, Souza 6 filed a complaint against Khattar at Vasco police station. On 19 April, an FIR was lodged by the Goa Police on Khattar alleging an offense of violating religious sentiments. The same night, Superintendent of Police South, Santosh Desai verified that the FIR was registered to PTI. The speech had the capacity to create disharmony in terms of communal harmony in Goa and the stakes Khattar was an arrestee demanded by Congress MLA Altone D’ Costa to be arrested immediately. Yuri Alemao, a leader of the Opposition and the president of the Goa Forward Party, also demanded his arrest. The organisers of the event, Sanatan Dharma Raksha Samiti, dissociated itself with his comments and apologised to the Christian community. In a video statement, the organisers stated that they had attempted to apprehend Khattar, and did not anticipate that he could say such things. About 21st April, there were comments by some Christian people in reaction to the controversy that were posted to social media that Hindu activists took offense. The posts made an offensive mention of Hindu gods such as Lord Ram, Sita and Parshuram. Babit Fernandes and Elesban Mark Mascarenhas were found based on display pictures in the posts. When Khattar was not found his brother Madhav Khattar was arrested in in Uttarakhand at Haridwar on 24th April. According to police, Madhav had prepared the speech of Gautam. A complaint was lodged by Jayesh Thali, Uday, Omkar Naik, Vinod and Yashwart and one at the Mapusa Police Station on 23 rd April against Babit Fernandes and Elesban Mark Mascarenhas. The complaint has included screenshots of the abusive Facebook posts and asserted that the plaintiff was violated of Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code of deliberate acts intended to outrage religious feelings, 153A of inciting enmity between groups, Section 504 of intentional insult intended to provoke violation of peace, and 505(2) of making statements likely to cause enmity between The complainants expected the police to name and charge the named persons as well as have the offensive content removed off the platform. The office of the Deputy Inspector General of Police sent the case to the Crime Branch on 21 April 2026. Khattar was issued a non-bailable warrant by a Goa court on 23 April 2026. Gautam Khattar was arrested in Kullu by the Himachal Pradesh police on 24 April 2026. The arrest was confirmed by Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta in Panaji. He went to a local court on 25 April 2026 and was on transit remand. They flew him to Manohar International Airport on 26 April 2026. They brought him to the Crime Branch office in Ribandar for a medical check-up at the Goa Medical College. Khattar was held in police custody for six days by a magistrate in Vasco. |

- He was born in an environment filled with religious activities. He saw public speakers and saints ever since he was a child.
- He was interested in oratory and politics from his childhood. He would often visualise himself speaking to crowds.
- He began to take interest in academics from the seventh standard. Until the sixth grade, Khattar attended an English medium school.
- This school fined students for speaking Hindi. He was then moved to a Gurukul.
- His old school friends made fun of his kurta and pajama. He was sad at first but eventually warmed up to the teaching.
- His family did not allow him to study in the university of his choice, and sent him to a mediocre one. Here he found an Acharya and loved being in his class.
