  • He later became the sarpanch of Thathian Mahantan village in Tarn Taran district.
  • On 18 February 2026, he was shot dead during a wedding function. He was attending his cousin’s wedding at Sidhu Farm on the Tarn Taran–Bathinda National Highway.
  • According to sources, Harbrinder Singh was dancing on the stage when four men from the crowd opened fire at him.
  • The attackers fired four bullets at his stomach and head, and he died on the spot.
  • His cousin, Germanjeet Singh, who was sitting nearby, was also shot in the stomach. Germanjeet was taken to a private hospital in Amritsar and was reported to be in critical condition.
  • Police teams reached the farmhouse soon after the incident and cordoned off the area. SSP Surinder Lamba of Sarhali police station said a case was registered and the body was sent for postmortem.
  • Police officials started checking nearby CCTV footage to identify the accused, who fled from the spot.
  • Nearly one month earlier, another AAP sarpanch, Jharmal Singh of Valtoha village in Amritsar district, was shot dead at a marriage function. In that case, police later arrested two shooters and five other accused persons.

  • On 22 February 2026, police noticed two suspicious persons on a motorcycle near Nushera Pannuan during early morning patrol duty.

  • In retaliatory firing, both suspects sustained bullet injuries during the encounter.
  • The injured accused were identified as Saranpreet Singh and Hardeep Singh, residents of Chohla Sahib.
  • Police recovered two pistols from their possession at the encounter site. Both accused were taken to Civil Hospital, Tarn Taran, and are undergoing treatment under police custody.
