  • Jaismine Lamboriya is an Indian boxer who booked a ticket for the 2022 Commonwealth Games after defeating Parveen Hooda in a trial bout in 2022.

  • She grew up in Bhiwani, known as ‘mini Cuba’ in India because of its boxing clubs. According to Jaismine, while she was growing up, there was so much boxing talk around her that she guessed that she had to become a boxer only. Later, stories about Vijender Singh and Mary Kom‘s historic bronze win at London Olympics inspired Jasmine to become a professional boxer.     As I am from Bhiwani, I always heard stories about Vijender Singh and then there was Mary Kom’s medal. Before that, because my uncles were into boxing, I had watched video clips of them in bouts. There was so much boxing talk around me when I was growing up. I guess I had to become a boxer only.”

  • According to Jaismine, when she was studying in the 10th standard, she told her mother about her interest in boxing, and her mother said that she would discuss this with Jaismine’s paternal uncles. In an interview, she talked about this and said,

    When I was in Class X, I told my mother about my interest in boxing. She told me she would tell my uncles.”

    Later, her uncle Sandeep asked Jaismine if she was serious about boxing. In an interview, her uncle Sandeep talked about this and said,

    She was very shy, but on that day she sounded determined. I told her and her mother that I would get her into boxing.”

  • According to Jaismine, she had to convince her grandfather, Chandraban, who is an army man and a wrestler, a lot to allow her to make a career in boxing, and following his nod, her uncles Sandeep Parvinder started grooming her; Parvinder is a 2006 Commonwealth Games boxer. Later, her uncles launched their own boxing academy called Lamboria in Bhiwani, and Jaismine was enrolled in the first batch of the academy.

  • In 2021, she won bronze at the Asian Boxing Championship held in Dubai, defeating Mongolia’s boxer by 4-1.
  • In the same year, she won silver at Boxam International Boxing Tournament in the 57kg weight category.
  • Acording to Jaismine, after she tested positive for Covid-19, she had fitness issues, and her weight increased from 57 kg to 63 kg, and after she recovered from Covid-19, she worked hard and lose her weight from 63 kg to 60 kg. In an interview, she recalled her Covid days and said,

    I had a lot of problems. For five to six months, I could not train properly. My Haemoglobin had dropped. It was a difficult period for me. But a year on, I am feeling fine and have no fitness issues.”

  • In 2022, she defeated Parveen Hooda to book her ticket for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
