- Lopez grew up in the Castle Hill neighbourhood in the borough of the Bronx in New York City.
- Her parents, David and Guadalupe, hail from Puerto Rico.
- David initially served in the army, but later, he started working as a computer technician at Guardian Insurance Company.
- Guadalupe was a homemaker for around ten years, and then, she started working as a Tupperware salesperson and a kindergarten and gym teacher.
- Lopez participated in track and field at Preston High School. She would also participate in gymnastics and was on the softball team.
