• Jyotirmayee Nayak was born in Rourkela and raised in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

• At a very young age, she developed a love for music and began learning Odissi classical music as a child.

• When she was in Class 3, she began her training under her first guru, Buddha Prasad Rao in Rourkela, Odisha.

• After moving to Bhubaneswar, she continued her classical training under her guru, Balakrishna Bhaira.

• Alongside with classical music, Jyotirmayee also trained in light vocal music, specialising in Bollywood songs, under Guru Sharada Prasanna Sahu.

• In an interview, Jyotirmayee shared that when she was working as music therapist, many of her patients encouraged her to audition for Indian Idol. She shared that,

Music therapy helped me gather blessings; I used to help cancer patients heal, and it is due to them that I managed to reach Indian Idol. When I used to sing to them, they would feel very happy and would say they wanted to see me on a platform like Indian Idol. When this happened, they were very happy.”

• In 2025, Jyotirmayee made her debut in Hindi television industry by participating in most famous singing reality shows Indian Idol’s season 16.

• After earning place in Indian Idol Season in an interview, Nayak shared that she did not initially plan to audition for Indian Idol and accompanied her students for the auditions; however, she later decided to perform herself and gave audition.

• In the early weeks of the competition, Jyotirmayee appeared in the bottom group several times; however, through public voting she was saved all the time from elimination. Her fan base from Odisha played a major role in supporting her through the competition. Later on the show she became one of the strongest contestants and gave many memorable performances. In an interview, she shared,

The highest point was when I got to perform on some iconic songs, and they did well; the lowest point was when I was placed at the bottom during eliminations. However, I got a lot of votes and I just kept working hard.”

• On 26 July 2026, Jyotimayee won Indian Idol Season 16 trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20 Lakh after consistently delivering strong performances over ther show’s nearly ten-months. After winning the title, she shared,

The journey has been almost a year long. I came to Mumbai on 14th September 2025, and it has been quite a journey. Gladly, it turned fruitful too, winning the trophy. I never thought about winning the prize money; all I thought was to give my best and get good comments. Since I didn’t think about the money, I don’t know where I will use it; now I will give it a thought.”

• After winning the Indian Idol trophy she became the first contestants from Odisha to win the title. In an interview, she shared,

I am the first Odia girl to come on Indian Idol. I feel lucky that my parents have been so supportive of me; they never questioned me or stopped me from doing anything. I have also been very particular about what I want to do. Your choices also shape your career, so my take was only that I sing and excel in it. Right from the beginning, my parents have supported me; that’s why I have reached here.”
