  • Kishore Jena is an Indian javelin throw athlete who has participated in many national and international competitions.
  • From a young age, he showed a keen interest in sports, particularly volleyball; however, his journey took a different turn when he sought admission to the sports hostel in Bhubaneswar for volleyball. He did not have the necessary volleyball certificates, hence he used his javelin throw certificate from a tournament in Cuttack to secure his admission.

  • His training in javelin throw started in 2015 under Nila Madhab Panda. In 2016, Kishore Jena joined the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in Bhopal and continued his training under the guidance of Rupanwita Panda.

  • He shifted his training to the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala, where he worked with coach Samarjeet Singh Malhi and made significant adjustments to his technique. He increased his run-up distance from 13-14 meters to 21 meters and modified the angle at which he released the javelin, causing remarkable improvement in his skills.

  • He became very happy and surprised after throwing a javelin above 80 meters distance for the first time as he thought that it was almost impossible for him.

  • During his training, Kishore Jena often took inspiration from videos of Jan Zelezny, the world record holder in javelin throw, and Neeraj Chopra, the first Indian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in javelin throw.

  • In August 2023, his visa was cancelled before the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Neeraj Chopra, the Indian Olympic gold medalist, took to Twitter to appeal for assistance from the Indian Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar, in resolving the situation for Jena.
