Controversy | Suspended from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for 5 years On June 29, 2025, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) suspended Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, MLA from Amritsar North, for a period of five years citing anti-party activities. The decision was taken during the party’s Political Affairs Committee meeting after Singh publicly criticised the Vigilance Bureau’s June 25 arrest of Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a disproportionate assets case. Singh, a former IPS officer, questioned the ethicality of the arrest and claimed that the government did not seek Majithia’s remand during his earlier arrest, accusing officers of facilitating bail. He had also previously raised concerns over the AAP government’s handling of sacrilege cases and had alleged links between ruling party leaders and the liquor mafia after the Amritsar hooch tragedy. Singh had not been attending party meetings for months. Following the suspension, he posted a Gurbani verse on social media, “Kabir Jisu Marne te Jagu darre mere man anand”, indicating no regret. |
