  • Mahmudul Hasan Joy was born in a Bangladeshi family.
  • He began playing cricket at Clemon Chandpur Cricket Academy during his school years. In 2014, he was admitted to the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP), the country’s main sports institute.
  • He made his List A debut for Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan in the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League on 8 March 2019.
  • In December 2019, he was selected for Bangladesh’s squad in the 2020 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In the Super League semi-final against New Zealand, he scored a century, helping Bangladesh reach the final. Bangladesh won the Under-19 World Cup for the first time in their history.
  • In February 2021, he was named in the Bangladesh Emerging squad for the home series against the Ireland Wolves.
  • In January 2022, he scored his first Test fifty against New Zealand at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui. He missed the rest of that series due to a finger injury sustained on the fourth day of the first Test.
  • In February 2022, Joy was selected for Bangladesh’s ODI squad for the home series against Afghanistan. In March 2022, he was again named in the ODI squad for the tour of South Africa.
  • On 31 March 2022, in the first Test against South Africa at Kingsmead, Durban, Joy scored his maiden Test century. He became the first Bangladeshi batsman to score a Test century against South Africa.
