• When Michael Truell was eleven years old, he learnt coding himself and created many mobile games.

• During his first year at MIT, he reportedly completed in a coding challenge that was designed to take one hour. However, he completed the task in less than ten minutes.

• His performance in the competition impressed Ali Partovi, a well-known investor. Ali later became one of the early supporters of Cursor.

• A media outlet once reported about his performance during this competition. It wrote,

• Later, Michael Truell became a Neo Scholar, one of the only 30 selected each year.

• In 2016, he served as an Intern at Two Sigma. During this period, he co-created Halite and launched it in Two Sigma.

• In 2017, he served in the Research department of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he attended the Probabilistic programming (RSI Summer Program).

• In 2018, Michael Truell again served as an Intern in Two Sigma, where he co-created Halite III.

• In 2019, when he was eighteen years old, he joined Google as an Intern for less than a year. During this period, he developed machine-learning language models that were used for ranking online content.

• In 2020, Michael Truell served as an Intern at Octant for less than a year. He worked on Computational chemistry.

• In the following year, he joined the Research department of  Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

• In 2022, he left MIT.

• After that, Michael Truell , along with his classmates Aman Sanger, Sualeh Asif, and Arvid Lunnemark co-founded Anysphere.

• Later, they created Cursor, an AI coding startup, and started working as its Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

• During the earlier period of Cursor, Michael Truell and his co-founders wanted to create an AI assistant for mechanical engineers.

• However, they later changed their decision and focused on software development as they were skilled programmers, and it gave them a stronger advantage.

• During the early years of his startup, Truell reportedly chose not to take a salary. He focused completely on building the company.

• In June 2022, Michael Truell made headlines when he was became the youngest self-made billionaires of the artificial intelligence era.

• His company Cursor was acquired by SpaceX in an $60 billion all-stock deal.

• Under the agreement, Anysphere, the parent company of Cursor, became a fully owned subsidiary of SpaceX.

• The deal ended the four-year journey of Anysphere, in which the startup grew into one of the world’s most valuable artificial intelligence (AI) software companies.

• This partnership was signed in April 2026. The SpaceX took the time to choose an option whether to acquire Cursor for $60 billion or to pay a $10 billion as collaboration fee.

• SpaceX then chose to acquire the company through its sister company xAI.

• The deal also gives Cursor access to Colossus, xAI’s huge AI training system. This system was powered by about 200,000 Nvidia GPUs.

• The combination of computing power of SpaceX and xAI with Cursor’s AI coding technology, the company could become a strong competitor to AI coding products such as OpenAI’s Codex and Anthropic’s Claude Code.

• After that, Cursor became one of the fastest-growing software companies in history with support from investors such as the OpenAI Startup Fund and Andreessen Horowitz.

• In January 2025, the company’s annualized recurring revenue reached $100 million.

• As of 2026, the company’s annualized revenue had grown to more than $2 billion.

• Its revenue reached nearly $3 billion by the middle of 2026 when it was taken over by SpaceX.
