Some Lesser Known Facts About Michelle Poonawalla

• Michelle is famous for her work in the field of art and philanthropy. She is associated with a number of non-profit organisations (NGOs) in Mumbai.

• Due to work, Michelle keeps travelling from London to Pune on a regular basis.

• Michelle got the chance to showcase her artwork for the first time in 2016 at the Gateway School where she used to work with children with special needs.

• Although earlier as a hobby, in 2017, Michelle started painting professionally. One of her art projects, “Introspection” was also exhibited in London, Dubai and, Cochin, India.

• Michelle’s grandfather Jehangir Vazifdar was a famous architect who built some of the iconic buildings of Mumbai. Apart from this, he was also an artist and has made many iconic paintings.

• Michelle got her inspiration for art from her grandfather, whom she used to watch sketch after returning from school.

• Michelle’s art projects Introspection and Circle of Life were exhibited at the Tao Art Gallery in Mumbai in 2021. Apart from this, her work has been exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London (as part of START, September 2019), Alserkal Avenue in Dubai (Dubai Art Week, March 2019), and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale in India (2018).

• In 2019, Michelle walked the ramp at a charity fundraiser event to raise awareness about child marriage. The event was organised by the NGO Breakthrough, which the Yohan Poonawalla Foundation and Michelle herself support.

• Michelle considers Mother Teresa to be her inspiration to continue in the field of social work.

• Michelle’s favourite piece of artwork made by her was ‘From Dust to Dust,’ which she created during the COVID-19 pandemic.

• Despite being a family passionate about horses, Michelle and her husband do not allow their children to do horse riding, citing it as a dangerous sport.
