- He made his First-Class debut in 2008 for Dhaka Division against Chittagong Division at Fatullah in the National Cricket League.
- Mominul’s List-A debut came for the Dhaka Division against Barisal Division at Savar in 2009.
- Mominul was part of Bangladesh’s Under-19 squad for the 2010 U-19 World Cup in New Zealand. In the same year, he was included in the National Cricket Academy.
- Mominul’s turning point in his career came during the Bangladesh A team’s tour of the West Indies series; he scored 150 runs in the very first match of the series. Later, his back-to-back centuries in the domestic circuit earned him a call from the national team.
- Mominul played for Barisal Burners (now Fortune Barishal) in the first season of the Bangladesh Premier League in 2012.
- Mominul scored a half-century in his debut test innings against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2013; he scored 55 runs off 83 balls.
- Mominul’s maiden test century came against New Zealand in Chittagong in 2013. He scored 181 in the innings, the highest-ever maiden century scored by a Bangladeshi batter.
