Some Lesser Known Facts About Musheer Khan

• Musheer Khan is an Indian cricketer who has represented various age group teams of Mumbai in domestic tournaments. He gained attention after he hit more than 300 runs in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup.

• He followed his elder brother, Sarfaraz Khan and started playing cricket at a young age. He learnt the basics of cricket at Macho Cricket Academy under his father Naushad Khan.

• He followed a very rigid daily routine while training as a child which included waking up at 5 am, reaching Azad Maidan ground by 6:30 am, and practising before going for tuition from his teacher Hitesh Doshi. He went to school at 12 noon, returned to the ground by 4 pm, and practised before going home at 8 pm. Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar advised him to sleep at 9 pm for proper rest which he followed.

• At the age of 6, he played in the 2011 Giles Shield Under-14 tournament, and at the age of 8, he played in the 2013 Kanga Cricket League. He later played in other tournaments such as the 2015 MGS-Bisleri Challenge Cup, the 2018 Harris Shield Tournament, and MitsuiShoji T20 Cricket League (Season 9) in 2023.

• While playing against Indian legend Yuvraj Singh in a friendly match in 2013 at the age of 8, Musheer took Singh’s wicket following which Singh gave him a ball with his autograph on it.

• He dismissed former Indian cricketer Abey Kuruvilla while playing for Diamond Star CC in the 2014 Kanga League following which he was gifted bowling shoes worth Rs 10,000 by Kuruvilla. ^[3]Mumbai Mirror

• Musheer came to the spotlight after hitting 237 runs not out for Mumbai Under-14 against Saurashtra Under-14 during the final of the West Zone tournament in 2017 which helped them become champions.

• He later performed well in other cricket competitions. In the 2021-22 Cooch Behar Trophy, he hit 670 runs in 11 innings at an average of 67, with five fifties and two centuries and took 32 wickets at an average of 26.06 with two four-wicket and three five-wicket hauls.

• He made his Ranji debut on 27 December 2022 for Mumbai against Saurashtra in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy. He scored 629 runs at an average of 78.63 with the highest score of 339 runs and took 16 wickets at an average of 13.81 in the 2023 Col CK Nayudu Trophy.

• Musheer Khan represented India Under-19 in the 2023 Under-19 Asia Cup held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the 2024 Under-19 World Cup held in South Africa, where he scored more than 300 runs which included 2 centuries. He said that the advice of his elder brother Sarfaraz Khan helped him in the tournament, and he would be happy only after winning the tournament.

• He went unsold for his base price of Rs 20 lakh during the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the 2024 season.

• Musheer broke Sachin Tendulkar‘s 29-year record as the youngest Mumbai batter to score a century in the Ranji Trophy final at the Wankhede Stadium on 12 March 2024.
