Naresh Kumar has often been in the news for his feuds with the Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi.

According to various reports, Naresh Kumar was in charge of the Vigilance Enquiry inquiry in the liquor policy case which led to the arrest of several senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders including Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh and Arvind Kejriwal.

Initially, Kumar was set to retire on 30 November 2023; however, his terms were extended twice.
