- On reaching Pallavi’s flat, the police immediately rushed her to M. R. Bangur Hospital, Kolkata, where she was declared brought dead by the doctors. Based on the initial investigation, the police believe it to be a case of suicide. During a media interaction, the investigating officer said,
Prima facie, it seems that it is a case of suicide. However, the final conclusion can be made only after the post-mortem report is available. We have started an investigation after filing a case of unnatural death.”
- When police questioned Sagnik Chakraborty (Pallavi’s live-in partner) about the incident, he informed the police that he had gone out to buy some cigarettes from the market and when he returned, he found the door locked from the inside. When Pallavi didn’t open the door at Sagnik’s request, he broke open the door and found Pallavi’s body hanging from the fan. He immediately called the police and shared the incident with them.
- In a media conversation, the investigating offer expressed his distrust towards Sagnik’s statement. He said,
Several inconsistencies have been found in Chakraborty’s statements regarding his work and source of income. We have found that he had closed his Salt Lake office a week before the victim died and is currently jobless. He, however, did not say this when we asked him about his profession.”

Her partner had a registered marriage with someone else two years ago and we came to know about this six months back. There was another girl who he was close to and it would often create trouble in their relationship. We don’t know who saw her hanging.”

The flat in Rajarhat which Pallavi’s parents are claiming was purchased with her money, was bought by us. Pallavi did not contribute anything. We had paid Rs 43 lakh in cash and took a loan to pay the remaining amount.”
- Denying all the allegations Sagnik Chakraborty’s parents said that Pallavi and their son Sagnik had no major issues. Talking about it to a media person, Sagnik’s mother said,
They used to live together. Although we were not in complete support, we allowed them since they are grown-ups. A few times I had asked Sagnik to stay elsewhere and start living together once they are married. They didn’t have any major issues. I don’t know what happened.”
- Later, Pallavi’s father filed a complaint against Sagnik in the Garfa police station, alleging the involvement of Sagnik and a woman in Pallavi’s murder.
