Papon hails from a musical background as his late father and mother both were musicians.
At a very young age, he started getting training in Indian traditional as well as classical music.
He always dreamt to perform at various music festivals all over the world.
He sings almost every type of music like folk music, ghazals, electronica, etc.
In 2007, he founded a folk-fusion band named as ‘Papon and The East India Company.’ The band includes a Drummer, a Bassist, a World Percussionist, a Guitarist, and a Keyboardist.
The band gave live performance at almost every Indian music festivals like the ‘SAARC Bands Festival’ in New Delhi, the ‘Kovalam Literary Festival’, the ‘Eastwind Festival’, ‘NH7 Weekender’ in Pune, the ‘October Fest’ in Bangalore, etc.
His band also gave live performance at various International festivals like ‘du World Music Festival’ in Dubai, ‘Java Jazz Festival’ in Jakarta, ‘Paleo Music Fest’ in Switzerland, ‘Oslo World Music Festival’ in Norway, ‘Dhaka International Folk Fest’ in Bangladesh, etc.
He has sung songs in several different languages like Assamese, Tamil, Mishing, Hindi, Punjabi, Marathi, and Bengali.
He appeared on the several seasons of musical TV serial ‘The Dewarists.’ In its first season in 2011, he was collaborated with popular Indian musician ‘Rabbi Shergill’ on the song ‘Khule Da Rabb.’ In its second season in 2012, he was collaborated with ‘Karsh Kale’, ‘Carl Barat’, ‘Ross Ainslie’, and ‘Warren Mendonsa.’ In its fourth season in 2014, he has sung the Indian music director Shantanu Moitra’s composing song.
In 2013, he along with musicians ‘Kartik Das Baul’ & ‘Anushree’ produced a song and performed it on the finale of ‘Big Boss Bangla.’
He gained huge popularity with the Indian TV serial ‘Coke Studio India’ and appeared in its first three seasons.
