  • On 15 December 2025, Rana Balachauria made headlines when he was shot during a Kabaddi tournament in Sohana, Mohali, Punjab.
  • The police claimed during the investigations that Balachauria was one of the organisers of the tournament at Sector 82 sports ground in Mohali, Punjab.

  • Reportedly, two hitmen came on a motorcycle and got close to Balachauria by asking for selfies. He was used to people wanting photos with him and did not suspect anything.
  • When they came near to Rana Balachauria, they pulled out pistols and shot him in front of the spectators, players, and organisers. Rana Balachauria got hit many times and fell to the ground.

  • A crowd of 500-600 people ran away in panic when gunmen fired shots in the air to escape. Balachauria got badly hurt in the attack.
  • The police rushed Rana Balachauria to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, Punjab, but he died from his injuries.

  • The tournament had been running in the village for a few days.

  • During investigations, police found four to five empty .32 calibre shells near the bloodied spot. Reportedly, six to seven shots were fired. The eyewitnesses described scenes of confusion and terror after the attack. One of the witnesses said,

    There was panic and chaos everywhere. People were running and screaming. We could not understand what happened at first and then pandemonium broke out.”

  • The police claimed that the Bambiha gang took responsibility via a social media post soon after the murder. It added that the Chaudhary-Shaganpreet gang claimed responsibility for the murder.

  • The gang claimed that they took revenge for the death of their brother Sidhu Moose Wala. In a social media post, the gang wrote,

    Today, at the Mohali Sohana Sahib Kabaddi Cup, Rana Balachauria was murdered, and we – Doni Bal, Saganpreet, Mohabbat Randhawa, Amar Khabbe, Prabh Dasuwal, and Kaushal Chaudhary – take responsibility for it. Balachauria was associated with our rivals Jaggu Khoti and Lawrence (Bishnoi). He sheltered the killer of Sidhu Moosewala and was involved himself. Today, by eliminating Rana, we avenged our brother Moosewala. This act was carried out by our brothers Makkhan Amritsar and Defaulter Karne.”
