  • Ravi Sinha is a 1988 batch IPS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre. He came into the limelight after the Indian government designated him as the 24th secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), India’s external intelligence agency.
  • Upon finishing his graduation, Ravi cleared the civil services exams organized by the UPSC. He reported at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad, Telangana for police training in 1988.
  • On 21 August 1989, Sinha completed his police training module at SVPNPA and was allotted the Madhya Pradesh cadre.

  • In 2000, following the separation of Chhattisgarh from Madhya Pradesh and its establishment as a distinct state, Sinha was transferred to the Chhattisgarh cadre.
  • Later, he was assigned to the Chhattisgarh Police Headquarters in Raipur.
  • Thereafter, he was posted at Durg, Chhattisgarh, where he assumed the post of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
  • Ravi Sinha is known as an expert in counter-insurgency, and as a result of his proficiency, he has held notable positions within the police force in Jammu and Kashmir, the northeastern states of India as well as the red corridor (areas greatly affected by the Naxal movement).

    The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Ravi Sinha, IPS (CG:88), PSO, Special Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat (SR) as Secretary, Research & Analysis Wing vice Samant Kumar Goel, IPS (PB:84) on completion of his tenure on 30.06.2023 for a tenure of 2 years from the date of assumption of the charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
