Some Lesser Known Facts About Rehman Dakait

• Rehman Dakait was born and grew up in Lyari, Karachi, Pakistan.

• He was a Pakistani gangster who terrorised Lyari in the 2000s. His character was played by Akshaye Khanna in the film Dhurandhar (2025).

• Rehman was raised in a family with deep criminal ties.

• His father, Muhammad, and paternal uncle, Sheru, had been involved in drug smuggling since 1964.

• Like his father and uncle from a very young age, Dakait entered the drug trade as a boy.

• When he was 13 years old, he stabbed a man and committed his first big crime.

• In 1995, at the age of 19, Rehman committed one of his most shocking crimes when he strangled his mother and hung her from a ceiling fan. At that time, it was speculated that she was involved in a rival gang.

• In the late 1990s, Rehman joined a gang led by Haji Lalu.

• In 2001, after the arrest of Haji Lalu, Dakait became the chief of Lalu’s gang.

• From 2001 to 2009, Rehman turned Lyari into an empire of extortion, trafficking, contract killings, and political influence with his associates Uzair and Baba Ladla.

• According to some reports of that era, Dakait and his associates used to play football with the decapitated heads of rival gang members on Rehman’s orders. This brutal act was done to show his power and control.

• Under Rehman’s leadership, Karachi’s gang rivalry worsened. His main rival was Arshad Pappu, the son of drug lord Haji Lalu. Their conflicts brought years of violence to Lyari. It also turned Lyari and its neighbourhoods into war zones.

• In 2005, during an operation, Dakait was arrested by senior official Zulfiqar Mirza; however, he escaped from the police custody and returned to Lyari with renewed force, and expanded his reach across Karachi’s underworld.

• In 2008, he founded an alleged militant group, Pakistan People’s Aman Committee (PAC), which had the support of the Pakistan Peoples Party and was based in Karachi.

• In August 2009, Rehman was killed in a shootout with Karachi Police led by SP Chaudhary Aslam Khan during the government’s crackdown on Lyari gangs.

• After the death of Dkait, his cousin Uzair Baloch took command of his gang.

• Many controversies continued even after his encounter, where police said he died in a gunfight, but one of his wives claimed that his encounter was planned to stop his growing power in Karachi and its neighbourhood. She also took the matter to the court.

• After the release of the Dhurandhar film (2025), Rehman Dakait again came into the limelight.

• Rehman Dakait had been married thrice. After his death, one of his wives was married to a local builder in Karachi.

• One of his sons, Sarban Baloch from his second wife, was also involved in criminal activities and was later killed in an encounter in March 2024.
