- Robin Hibu belongs to the Apatani tribe, a tribal Hindu group.
- He came from a farming family, but they did not have enough land to support themselves. He would gather and sell firewood to earn extra income.
- Robin’s community did not have a school, but he loved learning and walked about ten kilometres to attend school.
- After finishing his school education, he decided to go to Delhi for higher studies.
- He did not have enough money for a train reservation, so he had to sit on the floor in front of the toilet during his journey from Arunachal Pradesh to Delhi.
