  • Robin Hibu belongs to the Apatani tribe, a tribal Hindu group.
  • He came from a farming family, but they did not have enough land to support themselves. He would gather and sell firewood to earn extra income.
  • Robin’s community did not have a school, but he loved learning and walked about ten kilometres to attend school.
  • After finishing his school education, he decided to go to Delhi for higher studies.
  • He did not have enough money for a train reservation, so he had to sit on the floor in front of the toilet during his journey from Arunachal Pradesh to Delhi.
  • In Delhi, Robin Hibu could not find a place to stay and slept outside a vegetable warehouse near Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
  • After a few days, he got a room at JNU’s Narmada Hostel.
  • In 2007, Robin’s father was in a coma for four days while waiting for Robin to return from Delhi. When Robin held his father’s hand, he came back to life for half an hour before passing away.
